Comparing Video Game Building SItes: Gamestar Mechanic vs. Sploder
Wow. This was a challenge for to build a game on either site. I'm not a huge video game player and I think creating a video game is more challenging and time consuming than playing. The building of a game take so much forethought, patience, and creativity. I was trying to be uncreative as possible so that I could crank out a game much faster. This didn't work to my advantage. After I played around, I was able to see how east it is to create a game with GamestarMechanic. I think this could definitely be a Fun Friday Activity for my class.
Sploder was really fun. I love the retro style of the game. Brings me back to when I was a child. I didn't think well as I created my game and my character got stuck even before starting. It definitely makes me think of super mario with the coins and mosters and jumping. There were a lot of options and it also took a while to understand what each featured did. I thought after I played my game I was better able to add and create other elements.
I think since I created really simple games it was much easier. I imagine that kids could get really creative and make all kinds of traps and difficult obstacles. I wanted the gamed I created to be simple so that could learn how to navigate and and not have a game that was so challenging that i would get frustrated.
